Filipinos of LC Offering Welcome (FLOW)

Filipinos of LC Offering Welcome (FLOW) is the first and only Filipino American club at Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus. As the newest addition to District III (D3) of the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue (FIND Inc.), FLOW was founded to create a strong community and safe space for Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike to learn about and connect to Filipino culture. It not only provides a space for conversations surrounding the Filipino-American experience but also is a place for people across the wider District III to meet and support each other.

branding

As the club’s first Public Relations Officer and Creative Director, I was tasked with creating the original branding for the club as it was founded. With FLOW being essentially the newest club of D3, FLOW needed to be taken seriously while not being too intimidating for prospective members. Taking inspiration from the Filipino flag, I used pastel versions of the original colors to increase the approachability of FLOW while also remaining true to Filipino culture. The font “Neue Kabel” is used in the logo to further promote the accessibility of the club since it is very approachable. The use of the text warp literally reflects the club’s name and creates more organic lines that lessen rigidity. Throughout the branding, gradients featuring the brand colors are used that are intended to create a calming atmosphere around the club.

other projects

My time on FLOW’s e-board also allowed me to take on additional projects alongside the FLOW general body and other clubs. Here is a couple that I was lucky enough to take on!

FLOW x FAHM

During Filipino American History Month in 2020, I spearheaded a weekly infographic project aimed at Filipino Americans struggling with their identity growing up in the U.S. At the end of the month, the infographics were compiled into mini zines available for purchase. All proceeds from the zines will be donated to the National Alliance of Filipino Concerns.

I oversaw a team of researchers for each infographic as well as designed the original branding, each infographic and each print zine.

Beyond Earth, Wind & Fire: The Elements of Filipinx Allyship

In the summer of 2020, I spearheaded the creation and research for “Beyond Earth Wind, and Fire,” a comprehensive allyship document geared towards Filipino Americans. It covered a wide range of topics, such as colorism, colonial mentality, talking about racism with your family, as well as a list of additional resources (movies, podcasts, books, etc.) expanding on the documents’ covered topics.

Miss Philippines

Ms. Philippines (Ms. PI) is an intercollegiate pageant for Filipino-American women who are members of clubs within District III (D3) of FIND Inc. After a year of virtual D3 events, the pageant was moved entirely online and spearheaded by Rutgers Newark’s Filipino Student Association (FSA) and Fordham Lincoln Center’s FLOW.  This year’s theme, “Chrysalis,” asked participants how they are emerging from their own chrysalises and who they are choosing to become.

I acted as the planning team’s primary graphic designer, and was responsible for social media graphics, logos, and other assets, including the branding for the year’s theme. With the theme of “Chrysalis” being tied to biological processes of transformation, I utilized very organic tones of green and brown to represent this idea. The simple motifs of butterflies and a chrysalis are utilized throughout the branding and graphics, always alongside a dotted line. These motifs all represent movement and different stages within a process that is constantly changing. As a whole, the color palette in conjunction with the silhouettes reflects the grace of the Filipina while also maintaining the idea of her strength and growth.

Summerfest 2020

I created this logo for Summerfest 2020, an intercollegiate, multi-day fundraising event to benefit NAFCON and UNCF through a series of mixers and dares. FLOW teamed up with our sister club, the Fordham University Philippine-American Club (FUPAC) in addition to other Filipino clubs across FIND Inc.’s District III.

Merienda Meetup

These logos and social media assets were created for the Filipino American National Historical Society’s (FANHS) second “Merienda Meetup” with the topic of “Allyship, Solidarity, and Race.” The event featured talks from various Filipino American guest speakers about how best to show their allyship to the Black community at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests.
